The title is from one of my favorite bands, Brand New. If you don’t know them I strongly suggest going on iTunes and taking a listen. In my opinion the album Deja Entendu was their finest moment.
I know that you all were expecting to see your computer flood with photos of Jared Leto, and you will tomorrow but today I wanted to explore the style of this band since they happen to be one of my favorites.
I am a sucker for Rock Documentaries. I’m always renting them on Netflix or catching them late night on VH1 Classics. This is one was made by BBC a few years ago and it is one of the best that I have ever seen on American Alternative Rock. Check it out:
There are more parts but I couldn’t locate them on youtube.
I know that it is almost rounding the beginning of February but I just had to post my favorite fashion trends of the 2000s…So enjoy! and tell me yours!
The re-emergence of ‘grunge” style
Well, come on this is the fashiongrunge blog! The first time that I realized that this would hit the runways again was the Marc Jacobs F/W 2006 show. When I knew it would hit the streets was when Mary Kate Olsen emerged from child star to fashion icon. Now a few seasons later the plaid, combat boots and ripped tights are still kicking.

Minimalism + Luxury Basics
In the 2000s I think the importance of having basics in your wardrobe really took off. Many designers were drawn to the fact that people just craved a great “white t-shirt”. Alexander Wang was born under this movement. The Row, the Olsen’s first fashion line was created for the desire for the perfect t-shirt.

Alexander Wang noticed such a demand for basics that he created his diffusion line, T by Alexander Wang for Spring 2009

While many people are a little hesitant about this trend, I happen to still love it. I bought a pair about 2 years ago and I haven’t looked back. Here are some looks that are still happening for Spring 2010.
Rag & Bone
Blazers!
I for one am still wearing my blazer that I bought from a thrift store for $3.00! I have never gotten so much use out of one piece in my wardrobe ever in my life. I first saw this look on the ever so famous Balenciaga Fall 2007 runway show when “preppy” style was coming into the mainstream. Again, the Olsens were seen wearing small fitted navy blazers on the street which then cemented that this trend wasn’t going anywhere and it still hasn’t.

If some of you out there don’t know, this is the best time to online shop. Most shops are offering at least 50% off inventory in order to make room for Spring Collections. Some misconceptions about me is that I buy a ton of clothing for retail prices. I rarely do. Most of my shopping is hunting around to find the best deals but still being smart about what I do purchase. Shopping and being interested in fashion doesn’t exactly help my budget but I’m getting it under control..
Onto the loot..
Elizabeth and James boots from aloharag.com for 70% off!
I plan on pairing these with my distressed denim and flowy floral skirts…
Now I am understanding all the fuss about the pre-fall collections. If this is what I can expect to see from Preen this Fall then I need to pay off all my credit cards immediately.
I first saw Julie Delpy in “Before Sunrise” with Ethan Hawke. If you haven’t seen that film I strongly suggest running, yes running out to get that at its sequel “Before Sunset”. This Parisian native has dazzled in every film she has been in. She also tried her hand out in directing and writing the hilarious “2 Days in Paris” with her ex Adam Goldberg. More than her cinematic talent I admire her style beyond words and hope that I can look like this when I inevitably move to Paris in my late 30s. Check her out:
She is also quite a talented singer. Here is a sample of her in Before Sunset.
