Another Year…

Today is my birthday! Whoo Hoo! Last year I spent it in NYC and this year I’m in DC, my hometown. Turning a year older each year doesn’t really freak me out as much as I thought. It’s mostly just a time to see how much I have changed. As I’m spending more time in my room back at my house I have been overwhelmed with the amount of amazing old back issues of NYLON and other mags that I used to collect. I’m going to bring another suitcase and sneak some back.

I’m working on concepts for a new shoot right now and I discovered all of my old issues of Preen magazine. It was started in 2007 in Huntington Beach, California but I don’t think it is published anymore. It is almost exactly what I want my own magazine to look like. It is pretty much what NYLON started out like but seemed to have lost throughout the years. Here is an editorial that I dragged up from the depths of the internet. Hopefully this will inspire you too.

Start at the End…

Today was one of those days that I live for. One of the things that I miss most about living in New York is the endless amounts of things to do in one day. Not to say that L.A. doesn’t have those things, it’s just a different level. For example, today I woke up and met my friend for brunch, strolled in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, trekked into the city and wandered around for hours. The general consensus from my NY friends is that I brought the beautiful California weather with me here. It’s been amazing weather since I’ve been here. Yesterday, one of my friends did an awesome tattoo on my arm. Seems that 4 years ago I swore I would only get one tattoo and now I’m on my seventh planning the eighth. How things change in such a short time. Later on this afternoon I met one of my other friends for drinks and some pretty bomb apps… He is going to be moving out west in the next few months and I always love the chance to brag about the west coast.

svifa means “to soar” in Icelandic..thought it would be good to pay homage to one of my favorite places in the world…

Tomorrow is my last night in town before I head to DC to celebrate my actual birthday on Saturday. I’m looking forward to tomorrow night to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones in the town that will always have my heart. I love you, New York.

and oh yeah, I wasted no time getting my Dunkin Donuts/ Brooklyn Lager fix…

I was born on the move…

It has been one year since I have been back home. New York and DC that is. While I should be asleep I am so excited to be reunited with old friends and catch up in a city that will always feel like home to me. I gathered some of my favorite new york photos on tumblr and the web to get me ready for my trip!

Don’t Worry! I’ll be posting!

Even though I’m in L.A. now, “I’ll always love you though, New York”

Blogger Inspiration: Kayla Hadlington!

While I love looking at editorials and stylized photos for inspiration, my favorite types come from the streets. Some may say that the blog world is so saturated with bloggers who are just following a prototype of a successful blog. I recently ran across this blog run by Kayla Hadlington, a young girl from Birmingham, UK. I love her eclectic sense of style and amazing pastel hair. Her blog is one of the reasons why I still love the blog culture. It’s a peek into real life that almost everyone can relate to.

Enough talk, let’s watch.

Get Punk’d!

In honor of Grace Coddington’s birthday a few days ago, here is one of my favorite editorials that she styled for US Vogue last month. This ed is so on point with mixing exactly what I love for this season. Not to mention, this proves that US Vogue still got it!

Menswear Monday: James Franco

Every time I decide to profile a celeb on my Monday segments, I’m always surprised that I haven’t mentioned each one. I have loved and drooled over James Franco ever since he was “Daniel Desario” on Freaks and Geeks (another show that everyone who loves this blog should be watching). He was the stringy haired aloof stoner that stole my heart in that show. As did Jason Segel and Seth Rogen but more on that show at a later time. Since that show Franco has exploded into one of the biggest actors today..Here is why I love him so much.

yep…you’re welcome.

End of the Week…

A whirlwind week is coming to a close. Thank goodness. With all these upcoming projects and collaborations going on I’m pooped. I thought that since the new Foo Fighters album came out today I would end this week with a little “mini menswear monday” on Dave Grohl. He happens to be on the cover of the next issue of Nylon Guys magazine and boy did they get it right this time. Let’s face it, I never get tired of hearing about Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Dave Grohl.

California Daze.

With the prospect of a California summer upon us, I can only look for inspiration to keep me wishing and hoping. UNIF, a new clothing brand out out of Los Angeles is it for me right now. Check out more of their designs here. Until, then their lookbook for Summer should tide you over.

Summer! Bring it.

Menswear Monday: Editorial #4 “Blank Slate”

For this installment of Menswear Monday I decided to showcase another one of the fun photoshoots I love to do. This time we used one of the stylists and creative director of all the shoots we produce, Cody. Let’s just say we took him out of his usual comfort zone of neutrals and black and added a touch of color. Something that I love to see on the men out there.

Uh Oh!

I realize that the last time I blogged was Wednesday! I had no idea that the time was flying by so fast. Tonight I’m attempting to create a layout for a project that I am working on and I’m having a creative block. This hardly ever happens to me. It seems like there is another all night creative sesh happening tonight. For now, this will get me through my block. Upon surfing new blogs (which I could do all day) led me to Spell & The Gypsy Collective. Check this out.
