Menswear Monday: Suit Up!

It really is true that no one can resist a man in a suit. I know I can’t. This fall, Urban Outfitters is creating a mens suit shop exclusively online. Even the hipsters can have a tailored suit this season.

A Whirlwind…

Sorry for the lack of updates. I’m moving yet again on Thursday to another corner of this great big wild world of Los Angeles. Moving is such a bittersweet time in anyone’s life, but its great to start over.

but don’t worry there’s a menswear monday comin up soon!

the many faces of joe…

I love Joseph Gordon Levitt. He is one of the most talented actors out there right now. In his latest shoot for Blackbook magazine, he is depicted in many different characters. Love this simple styling of this shoot. What a young dapper man…

Streetstyle for the Soul…

It’s been a while since we have explored where the true fashion lives and breathes…the streets. This is where fashion comes alive in full color and stereo sound all over the world in any given corner of the world.

Here is the ish I’m diggin now.

Menswear Monday: Dinosaur Jr.

Yesterday at Amoeba I bought 1991: The Year Punk Broke. One of the quintessential grunge films that had just now been released on DVD for its 20th anniversary. It was one of the movies high on the list of must sees for a grunge fan so when it came out a few weeks ago I had to get it. Amoeba is my kryptonite. I was just planning on going for a minute and then I drifted over to the vinyl section. Back on topic…

Anywhoo…in the documentary they feature a live performance by noise post punk band, Dinosaur Jr. I thought they would make a great true grunge profile for this Monday.

Just with every other grunge icon I love the style of this band as well. The barely brushed hair with the tattered clothes. Yet another awesome aesthetic creeping around to your closet this fall.

here is that amazing live performance from the European 1991 tour w/ Sonic Youth and Nirvana. (Man what a show that must have been?)

A New Space…A New Way of Thinking…

Moving has to be one of the most stressful things in anyone’s life. I’m trying to look at it as a way to start over. Having a new space creates a plethora of possibilities oh ways to mix up your current space. Here are some images that I’ve been flipping through while on my apartment search this past month…

Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore: Grunge. Split.

When I heard the news last week that one of the few remaining indie grunge couples, Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon were splitting up my world died a little. Forming Sonic Youth in 1981 they are one of the bands after Nirvana that I discovered as a teenager. The seemingly uncertain future of Sonic Youth as a band is really what is giving my world confusion.

Here is a trip down memory lane of the magic of Sonic Youth in both photo and film…

Enjoy.

One of my favorite Sonic Youth songs, “Silver Rocket”…

Late Menswear Monday: Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam

We can’t really talk about how awesome the 90s were without talking about Eddie Vedder. My mom will be so pleased because she really has taken a liking to him. Much to my dismay my own mother likes Pearl Jam more than Nirvana. At least she actually knows the two bands. Yep. Pretty cool. Anywhooo

The famous frontman for Pearl Jam and a member of one of the best supergroups, Temple of the Dog is one of mt favorite singers to date. His voice is gruff and captivating. So much that one of their more acoustic songs, “Yellow Ledbetter” is my favorite by Pearl Jam.

Here are some photos of him in the 90s that I could dig up…

and how awesome is this photo of Eddie and Chris Cornell…

this is one of the best Pearl Jam videos: “Alive”

Andy Warhol and the Factory…

Andy Warhol created that concept that everyone would be famous for 15 minutes. In the 60s and throughout the 70s the famous pop artist surrounded himself with socialites, actress, and artists of all types and created art in a place he called “the factory”. Some of the most famous “factory” people are Edie Sedgewick, Nico, Lou Reed and many others.  While this was well before grunge times, the energy of the creative spirit can be seen to have an amazing impacts on genres to come…
