I have a lot of books. There I said it. That’s nothing I plan on remedying anytime soon. Lately, I’ve been flipping through “Not in Fashion” by Mark Borthwick whenever I find a free minute. I have another shoot coming up on Sunday so I have been finding inspiration in what I have around.
There is something about fashion photography that switched in the 90s. Gone were the days of over produced sets and glossy edge. Since the alternative and grunge revolution was born, the art evolved with it. Then photographers like Terry Richardson came on the scene who totally changed the way fashion photography is seen today. Mark Borthwick uses this look effortlessly. I love the indie, lo-fi look of the hazy Holga type shots that grace the pages of magazines like Lula, Indie, and i-D.
