Throwback Thursday: Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet

For as long as I could remember I have been obsessed with Romeo and Juliet. The passion, the intensity, and the beauty of the story. Even though yes it has a tragic ending it still is one of the most amazing pieces of literature ever.

In eighth grade we were reading Shakespeare in school and that year Baz Luhrmann released his version of the classic story. This might have been the first time that I saw a movie multiple times in the theater. Starring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio in the roles of their career, everything about this film is so beautiful. From the vibrant colors, amazing costumes, and the modern twist to the story I am forever in love with this film. It also has one of the best soundtracks of the 90s. Truth.

  1. this movie is soo perfect, it’s my fav of all times. So stylish and unique and poetry doesn’t look weird in the atmosphere of realistic universe created in the movie. It’s soo sooo goood. And Radiohead- talk show host song just breaks my heart everytime I heart it. And Garbage, and Cardigans… Oh, just perfect.

  2. Another film I had to show as a teacher. I had to hide at the back of my classroom and tell the kids to ignore my sighs.
Not easy to be a responsible adult with this one. Like, smoking is bad, kids. Unless you’re Leo sitting by the beach at sunrise with a rollie dangling from your lips. In which case smoke away, because it’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. *siiiigh
