It’s time for Cody’s LA Fashion Week Recap:
In the City of Angels, fashion week takes on a different face for the SS13 season. Locally based LA designers are joining forces with already established designers,, this city gives new heights for it’s angels to soar . We witnessed some of these must see collections and were blown away by two of these interesting very LA savvy events.
GGeisha Marianne is the Owner and Creative Director at Dripped. An event held at the Grand Star Jazz Club in historic China Town, LA. The theme is based around fashion; it’s influences and effects. We were able to capture some of the fashion installations that were just at the tip of the Soiree known to the “Underground tastemakers of LA” as the Dripped fashion soiree and trunk show. Offering not only great fashion from locally found designers and brands, but also offering the “Fashion Party” atmosphere we all love so much. Art installations, trunk shows, booze, and music… Snaps to GGeisha! This is def. an event we will be keeping on our radar.

Fashion week wouldn’t be fashion week without a collection and show that stopped us from remembering anything else we have or would have seen during the weeks events. The boys of ZALEZ delivered. Previously working with Rafael and Joab on the Nightcrawlers shoot, we knew this was something that we couldn’t miss. The boys of ZALEZ showcased their ss013 collection “Bloom Galaxy” on Sunday Oct 21st to a packed room awaiting the unveiling of what was next for the boys. The music starts and so begins the next journey for these two very talented artists. Editor in Chief Lauren Brown says “It was a cosmic raver 90s girl with an Avant Garde twist. For the fearless fashion set.”
Bloom Galaxy spoke to me on many different levels. The futuristic undertone and creative architecture mixed with outstanding stitching and avant garde made it an obtainable look for the unobtainable. I caught up with Rafael and Joab and got some insight into what was the turning wheels for Bloom Galaxy.
What were some key concepts in the design and execution of the SS013 collection?
-Bloom Galaxy was inspired by the Galaxy, space and the bold rich muted colors it offers. We enjoyed mixing old traditional designs wile bringing a new esthetic.Lucite materials and the manipulation of vinyl was key to executing our vision.
-Rafael & Joab
What does your brand offer that other LA based designers don’t?
-Our main focus is not ready to wear or cookie cutter items that can be mass produced. We like to give unique one of a kind pieces of art that truly come from our imagination.
-Rafael & Joab
Your SS13 collection offers a lot of industrial influenced material. Explain how you think industrial crosses over to into the mainstream.
-We believe in a modern tomorrow with industrial design. Avant-garde one of a kind pieces that can be elegant or street. That versatility is what we want to cross over to that mainstream society.
Rafael & Joab
What are some of the biggest rituals you go through while creating?
-Rafael says, Thinking ahead. Calculating and drawing out my plan of execution so that at the end, all points drafted match. Listening to music and loosing myself in my imagination for hours but at the end of the day my ideas come all year long from the strangest of places.
-Joab says, I love to marinate in my ideas listen to music all day and be very observant with my surroundings, because there is inspiration everywhere and you never know what will inspire you next.
