In the 90s model James King was an “it girl” before the term was coined. She became a muse for documentary photographer Nan Goldin, and young fashion photographer, Davide Sorrenti who she later dated. Born in Omaha, her blonde hair was more reminiscent of a California beach girl but her seemingly natural grungy lifestyle made her the center of an aesthetic called “heroin chic”.
While the photos taken of her in that time were in no way meant to glamorize drug use, it did produce the aesthetic term used to describe a certain look that was common in the fashion world. These photos of that time provided an un filtered, raw and un-glossed version of her life.
