Overdrive.

Lately my mind has been on such overdrive. Between working, editing the photos from the latest shoot (which will be out later this week..eek!), and starting another project I’m so drained. Looking forward to my next day off real soon…

Relax and check out this batch of inspo for ya…

It’s Hip to Be Square: Michael Pitt for Prada 2012

To quote the infamous Huey Lewis and the News, it really is hip to be square. Well, in Michael Pitt’s case. He was chosen to be the new campaign model for Prada’s spring menswear season. Inspired by the 50s, Pitt shines in the designers new duds for spring.

Now I know it isn’t Monday but we can bend the rules a bit. Especially for Michael Pitt.

does this make anyone else think of American Psycho?

90s Crush: Angelina Jolie

Who would have ever predicted that 15 years ago the grungy girl from “Hackers” would become one of the most inspiring people in Hollywood? From her out there attitude to her random rumors, she has always been one of my favorite icons.

I tried to gather some inspirational photos of her in the 90s to show my love on this Friday morning.

How fully awesome is this polaroid? 90s in a nutshell.

Both of them in Girl, Interrupted is pretty much the best thing ever.

I loved when she was married to Johnny Lee Miller…

ahh…love.

Choose Life.

“Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life . . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life: I chose something else.

These are the opening lines to the film, Trainspotting. A movie about a group of heroin addicts living and going crazy in Edinburgh, Scotland. This movie will scare you straight from even thinking about touching any kind of drug, so tread lightly. Through the graphic depiction of the trials and tribulations of heroin addiction, the style of this movie has shaped so much of the trends out there today. Especially, in the new movement in grunge. Mixed with some mod influences of the U.K. there is no shortage in fashion inspiration here.

Not to mention, who doesn’t love Ewan McGregor and Jonny Lee Miller from the 90s?

90s Movie Crush: AJ from Empire Records

The first time I saw Empire Records I longed for the days when I could work in a record store with such awesome people. I think it had the same affect on every teenager who watched it in 95. AJ was the sensitive artist in love with Corey, played by Liv Tyler. Every girl wishes that he was in love with her..Ahh swoon.

It also doesn’t hurt that his grungy sense of style is still so awesome today.

and if you haven’t seen Empire Records, consider this a reason to go see it NOW.

the many faces of joe…

I love Joseph Gordon Levitt. He is one of the most talented actors out there right now. In his latest shoot for Blackbook magazine, he is depicted in many different characters. Love this simple styling of this shoot. What a young dapper man…

Swoon…

Andy Warhol and the Factory…

Andy Warhol created that concept that everyone would be famous for 15 minutes. In the 60s and throughout the 70s the famous pop artist surrounded himself with socialites, actress, and artists of all types and created art in a place he called “the factory”. Some of the most famous “factory” people are Edie Sedgewick, Nico, Lou Reed and many others.  While this was well before grunge times, the energy of the creative spirit can be seen to have an amazing impacts on genres to come…

Movie Style File: Tai from Clueless

One of the greatest things about the greatest movie of all time, Clueless, is the fashion. My favorite character is Tai, played by the late Brittany Murphy. The only snag in my love for this movie was that they turned her from grunge girl to preppy fashionista. I can overlook this sight because her fashion throughout rocked and still does.

she’s got silver docs..i mean come on.

Tai and Travis…grunge true love..my heart melts.

Fashion Grunge Wishlist: Isabel Marant Suede Boots

It’s been a while since I’ve told the universe what is on my fashion wishlist. They always say that once you put it out in the universe then it will happen. I think that mostly this holds true for jobs and other more important thing but this time I’m going to wish for the suede boots on everyone’s wishlist: Isabel Marant Dicker boots.

These boots have been seen on models, bloggers, and celebs all over. I managed to pick up a quite similar pair at Zadig & Voltaire last fall in Paris, but now I need the black ones.  They are just a standard suede boot but it seems to go to well with everything. Literally, everything.

Let the drooling commence…

“When Patti Smith met Michael Pitt”

This Fall’s edition of Another Man magazine just might be one of my favorites yet. Patti Smith interviewing Michael Pitt, um hello amazing! Apparently they have been friends for a while and admired each others work from afar.

As if this couldnt get any better the photos accompanying the article were taken by Hedi Slimane. I couldn’t find any more photos on the interweb so looks like I need to take a journey to my local newsstand today.

Issue on stands now…
