Number 5 with a Bullet…UnEarthen Jewelry

So, up until recently I was never much of a jewelry girl. I was completely content just buying cheap stuff from H&M. Don’t get me wrong I still do. Now, I have come to appreciate all these new jewelry designers  that seem to be popping up overnight.

They use old oxidized bullets and hollow out the points to house crystals. Each crystal symbolizes different thing. Boosting immunity, lowering stress levels and so forth. I for one think these are so inspiring and best of all look at this packaging. It’s a work of art that you almost want to use as decoration.

Their vial necklaces that contain oils and powders also come in little glass jars filled with sand, attached with a note describing the essence of each necklace.

Menswear Monday: Burberry Prorsum Spring 2010

Now, I could have written about the newest collection from Burberry being the Fall 2010 line, but I think that since Spring is upon us I will recap spring . Lets face it, this is what I hope to be seeing walk around for the spring and summer season. We can all dream.

Designer Christopher Bailey has really kept the style of Burberry true in this seasons show. I love the use of the classic quilts in some of the coats. One of the key elements is blending the casual accessories like school backpacks with sharp tailored suits. Every piece seems so interchangeable and relaxed . This just proves that every man needs a trench and a backpack in their closet this summer.

“We are the Weirdos, Mister”

It seems that every good movie (or at least what is on my top ten) was released in 1995. Many of the cult classics of my generation are seriously the best movies I have ever seen in my life. Kids, Dazed and Confused, Empire Records, Mallrats, and The Craft were all released in 1995.

I just hosted a “Craft” party at my apartment about two weeks ago after discovering much to my shock and dismay that one of my friends had never seen it. Needless to say he was blown away at how amazing it was. While I was watching it for the 100th time I took more notice of the fashion style shown throughout. Most of the film the girls are in Catholic school uniforms but they are all styled to each characters personality which was genius on the costume designers part.

This past week Alexander Wang had his much anticipated Fall 2010 show. When I first saw it I have to admit I was underwhelmed but it had a sense of familiarity that I identified with. I couldn’t put my finger on it at first but then “Aha!” This is mid 90s but not grunge. Its from the time in my life when I would wear short sleeve shirts under my spaghetti strap dresses and dressed somewhat like a hippie. I knew I had seen this recently and it was in the Craft. Seems like velvet is back. Too bad I sold my floor length crushed velvet skirt 1o years ago.

Menswear Monday Style Profile: Nicholas Hoult

It’s another installment of menswear Monday and Nicholas Hoult is my crush du jour this week. I know that it seems that celebrities are the focus of my last three menswear posts but I am drafting a long and detailed post of my menswear fashion week wrap up. It’s so hard to express how I feel about mens fashion because it is still fairly new to me.

Nicholas Hoult is most known from “About a Boy” with Hugh Grant back in 2002. He gained more exposure from starring as Tony on highly popular and shocking UK teen drama, Skins. A show that I happen to be a big fan of to this day. More recently he starred in “A Single Man” directed by former Gucci designer Tom Ford.  He can now also be seen in his S/S 2010 ads. Subsequently an ad that I just saw plastered along Sunset Blvd on my drive home tonight.

I have always admired the UK style. He seems like a younger more clean cut version of Pete Doherty. Although not as grungy but he has a certain type of cool, laid back style that seems to run rampant across the pond.

Mary-Kate Fashion Staple: Carol Christian Poell Boots

Ok , I think its pretty clear that I love the Olsen twins. I have seen these boots on Mary-Kate lately and I just had to know who they were designed by. One of the things that I love about her is that she constantly recycles her fashion, which is amazing seeing as their closet is probably bigger than my house.

Carol Christian Poell,  an Austrian designer who bears many similarities to Martin Margiela with his transforming garments that can be worn more than 5 different ways. Check out some of his menswear at www.ateliernewyork.com( which is also worth visiting if you are in the nyc area).
