If you haven’t seen the 1995 Larry Clark film, Kids then go out and rent it immediately. I can’t really tell you too much but lets just say that it is an all too real portrayal of how children seem to be growing up these days. It shows an atmosphere of NYC that only few people can know. Most people don’t think of kids growing up in Manhattan but this truly shows the struggles and temptations that most children face when growing up in a big city.
Chloe Sevingy and Rosario Dawson both got their start in “Kids”. Larry Clark scouted Rosario Dawson from her own front stoop in the Lower East Side. A few other actors such as Leo Fitzpatrick also got notoriety as well.
I happen to love the style in this film the most because this was the age that I grew up in. Babydoll ringer tees and just an overall “Clueless” style mixed with the grungy skate look…
(future update: We covered this film for our first episode on the Fashion Grunge Podcast in 2020)

My goodness, Kids… A sobering look at teens, that’s for sure. Great film making… I haven’t seen it recently, so I must see it again.
That film disturbed me at first but now I see why it is such a cult classic. Great post!
