Jump in the Fray with Charlie May…

This is one post that I’m very excited to share with you all. I’m sitting in my living room watching “Live Tonight! Sold Out!” a great Nirvana documentary that always brings so many memories back. I can remember showing up with the VHS tape in hand at my friends house all excited to sit extra close to the screen. SO much that I’m apart of the show. You will soon feel the same when you read my upcoming post. This leads me to my post on British fashion designer, Charlie May.

her video for the AW12 line is mindblowing…

She’s not only a great new indie designer, but I feel a bit guilty because she’s a secret I’ve been keeping for too long. She has a blog called Girl a la Mode and it’s been on my list of  top 5 blogs to read when I get home for years now.  Part Rick Owen, part Jil Sander, part Alexander Wang with a splash of Acne sums up her designs to a tee. Showing her second collection just a few weeks ago in London she is already been well received by the press and I can only hope that I make my way to London soon to check these pieces out in person. Until now I never knew how the absence of color can speak volumes.

Menswear Monday: Gavin Rossdale

I know that the first time you hear “machinehead” you wanted to know what that lead singer looked like. I know I did. Little did we all know that it was Gavin Rossdale of Bush. Hailing from London they dominated the alternative rock scene in the mid to late 90s. My favorite album of theirs was “Sixteen Stone” and for some years I actually wanted to name my first born “Glycerine”. Now he’s married and has the most amazing alternative rock offspring with none other than Gwen Stefani. Could this match be any more perfect in everyones rock  fantasies? I dont think so.

and Gavin and Shirley…can’t even deal with this photograph.

Neo Grunge Inspiration…

Put the word neo in front of anything pre-existing and you’re delving into the new wave of a trend. For this Sunday’s inspiration I found this tumblr that tagged photos neo-grunge. This just might be up your alley…

Running the Streets…

here is sandra from 5inch and up blog wearing a Charlie May jacket (but more on that designer later)

Not only do I love fashion week but the street style is just as interesting as all the shows. Fashion is ultimately from the streets that is always so inspiring to watch. Here are some looks that I’ve been into during these past few weeks. Paris is just starting to get underway so I’m sure there will be plenty more awesome shots to come!

Fashion Grunge Obsession: Carolina Turner

Indie designers are the best. Especially when they are based out of the city that I want to live in next, London. Carolina Turner is a brand new brand that has just hit the scene about 7 months ago. She’s gaining fast momentum in London and I really hope to be seeing her angular grunge inspired pieces all over the globe.

Take a look at the badass video:

Supervixen…Shirley Manson

Only Shirley Manson could front a band called Garbage. Back in the mid 90s she was one of my style inspirations. Actually, she still is. While she was in an alternative rock band, her style was rooted in grunge. I love her smeared eyeliner, fishnets, and Dr. Martens. Ok…girl crush status.

Here she is at the H&M for Marni event just a few days ago..looking awesome.

Menswear Monday: Dallas Green

I just had to do a post on Dallas Green. The man behind City and Colour is probably one of the most amazing singer songwriters out there right now. I first discovered his music when I was driving across the country to California. Aside from the fact that he has an incredibly soothing voice, he is pretty dreamy. I’ve seen him a few times when he did vocals for hardcore band, Alexisonfire, but his solo career has been better than anyone expected.

Take a listen and look…

Mint Condition…

There is something so refreshing about the prospect of spring that puts me in a tizzy. Not only because its the season of my birthday, but all of my other clothes from my closet can come out to play. Contrary to popular belief, there are still some clothes you can’t wear all year round in Southern California. It does get chilly.

This season pastels are all over the runway. Mint/seafoam in particular is one color that I’ve been drawn to as of late. Here is a color themed inspiration post all centered around this refreshing color.

Take a look…

I know its not mint color based but I looove mojitos!!

Oh and I can’t forget about these awesome oxfords on ASOS that I ordered!

Model Inspiration: Amira Ahmed

Ever since I opened up this month’s NYLON I fell in love with Amira Ahmed. She’s half Filipino, half-Somali and the new model muse for 2012. Aside from the fact that she’s shot with one of my favorite males, Josh Beech, she’s just bangin.

Take a look and see what the fashion world is being inspired by now…

Rainbow Brite…

I think we have all noticed that pastel hair has resurfaced again in the world. I remember being so mad that I had dark hair when I was a teen because I had to go through such a process to dye it. It seems that a bottle of manic panic on a frosty blonde is the recipe for a spring summer lookbook or even a vogue spread. Man, Charlotte Free has made a career out of having pink hair.

Take a look at this trend in action…

oh and we can’t forget Jem!
