I have been following model Lauren Hastings for quite a while now. Last summer she modeled for the Planet Blue lookbook and I completely fell in love with her California rocker bohemian style. I was super excited to get the chance to ask her some questions and get a bit more insight to one of the raddest models around!
Check it out!
LB: How long have you been modeling? How did you get your start?
LH: I started modeling at 12. I was walking threw the local mall in Fresno California and there was a contest called Facefinders. I asked my mom if I could enter in it and she said yes. So me and my lil sister took Polaroids. They invited us both back to do the Fashion Show and the winner of that would win an all expense payed trip to Palm Springs for the Big Modeling expo. So I won the fashion show and went to Palm Springs. Then won a couple of awards there and signed with Ford Models at 12. Can’t tell you how long cause then that would give away my age. 😉
LB: What has been your favorite shoot to date?
LH: Oh man that’s so hard to choose. Damn. I’ve worked with so many cool interesting people. There’s a recent one for What Youth Magazine I did. Where the photographer Jason Lee Parry had me spitting fire. That was pretty challenging. It was my first time doing that. Having to blow fire with Bacardi 151 (tastes like fucking gasoline) but being conscious of how you look, if your eyes or closed or open, trying to not make an ugly face while drinking poison, trying not to light my hand on fire (which happened almost every time) It was fuckin nuts! But super fun tho. I would do it all over again!
LB: Do you have any pre/post shoot rituals?
LH: It depends what the job is for. If its going to be a nude then yes! I work out a shit ton and eat really clean. But if its just a normal mellow lookbook I just go in with a good attitude and ask them how they envision the shoot. Look at there mood boards and what they want me to convey. What story can I then tell.
LB: What’s your favorite decade and why?
LH: Well style wise im going with 60’s and 70’s, Victorian from the 1800’s, and early 1900’s. You have Anna Karina, Jane Birkin, and Lauren Hutton whom I am named after. 50’s and 60’s for music. Shit and 70’s and 90’s fuck, all music!
LB: Tell us something people would be surprised to know.
LH: If I wasn’t modeling or acting I would want to be a Criminal Profiler. I also like to eat while taking a bath.
LB: Who are your biggest inspirations, past or present?
LH: That’s also a tough question. I find inspiration in so many things and so many people. From actors to musicians to friends and family. I’d say my little sister is a huge inspiration to me. There isn’t one that sticks out more than the other. I take a little bit from everything and everyone.
LB: Who have you been dying to work with that you haven’t yet?
LH: Dead or Alive?! Haha. A lot of people. Clint Eastwood, Noah Baumbach, Bill Murray, Ryan McGinley, Kate Moss, Annie Leibovitz, Bryan Duffy. Shit, I don’t know my list could be a novel.
LB: What’s next for you?
LH: I got something really cool in the works, but can’t announce it yet.
Thanks Lauren!

LOL! those people who eat clean but smoke cigarettes & drink like fishes. also eating in the bath is such a gross thought, makes me think of that scene from Gummo.
