I’ve been meaning to share this band Pool Kids (@poolkidsfl) for quite a while. In one of the truly great advantages of the modern age, the random generation or ‘radio’ feature on Spotify is literally what keeps me somewhat current in music these days. Pool Kids brings me back to the days of uncomplicated indie rock with a strong emotional voice. That’s one of the main aspects of the emo rock in the early 00s that I’m missing from most current musical acts.
It just so happens that just last week Hayley Williams from Paramore shared Pool Kids’ latest record on her Instagram so I’m stoked for more people to hear them!
I got a chance to ask them a few questions on the heels of going out supporting Mom Jeans on tour…

Let’s get to the intros. Where are you from? How did the band get together?
We all met in Tallahassee, Florida, but after graduation I (Christine) moved to Pensacola, FL and Alex moved to Columbus, GA. So we’ve been managing things long distance for a minute now and have plans to move elsewhere! We basically just all met through various little music community type connections in Tally, like the college radio station and playing in other bands and stuff. We started as a two piece with just Caden and I but eventually found the right bassist (Nicolette) and finally added a second guitarist.
What’s the most exciting thing that’s happened to you in the past year?
Overall just the hype around the album release! It seriously exceeded our expectations so much. We’re about to tour with Mom Jeans for a few dates, and I would say that opportunity is definitely one of the most exciting things that has happened this year. Anthony Fontano tweeting our bandcamp link was pretty exciting too, lol.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
We usually just go with “mathy-ish emo”, “twinkly tappy guitar stuff”, but if it’s like someone’s parent or one of my teacher coworkers asking it gets a little more difficult and I just gotta stick with “rock music, electric guitars” lol. (They always ask if it’s acoustic..?)
Where do you see yourself as a band in two years?
Hopefully touring all the freaking time with bands we love!!!
Who would you love to tour with?
I mean if we’re talking about like in fantasy dream world… Paramore lol. Or Tera Melos, TTNG. Nicolette says Phoebe Bridgers, U.S. Girls, or Code Orange.
What concert do you wish you had seen from the past?
There’s this video of Two Knights playing at SXSW like five years ago that Caden showed me and I really wish I was there lol. And now we’re label buddies through Skeletal Lightning and got to play with them recently at a convenience store in Denton!! ..That venue is called Midway Crafthouse by the way and you should go there and support them lol.
a random question: What are your Netflix recommendation?
Shit… I actually never watch Netflix because I’m boring and I’ve been trying to work on it so I’M actually the one that needs the recommendations!!!
