“Polaroided Valeria” by Alice Calypso for fashiongrunge.com

IMG_0244There’s something about this series by Russian photographer, Alice Calypso that really drew my interest.  Poised as an almost Alice in Wonderland through the streets, this reminds me of a lost and more simple world. Where the 90s are still in tact.

“My Girl’s a Tomboy” by Maggie Dylan for Yen Magazine

Tomboy-leader

The concept of the ‘tomboy’ has pretty much been my mantra since I was a kid. I’ve never been much for dressing up in frilly dresses so any nod to that lifestyle is well received by me. In this editorial by Maggie Dylan for Yen, it brings me back to my high school days. And I feel right at home.

“Afternoon Sister” by Caroline Mackintosh for Oyster Magazine

catherine_1

I originally had another post scheduled for today. Then I saw this amazing story by South African based photographer, Caroline Mackintosh that completely rocked my world. It does well to assume that the photographer worships the world of the soft focus 1970s. You may recognize a similar style in Sophia Coppola’s film work, particularly “The Virgin Suicides”, one of my favorites. Back to the days of seventies easy listening and through the haze of a summer afternoon.

“Velvet Skin” by Cary Fagan for fashiongrunge.com

image_9

Soft light, blush tones, and the grain of film. The latest exclusive editorial for the site comes from Houston based photographer, Cary Fagan. We previously featured an interview with him a few months back,  and it’s so great to have a series from him here on the site.

Let the warm tones wash over you and fall into summer.

“Boys Don’t Cry” by Spela Kasal

SpelaKasal1_DossierJournal

I’m always a fan of tomboy style. That combined with fall fashion makes my heart all giddy. Bending gender fashion lines and still keeping an element of girlish charm is the theme of this editorial by Spela Kasal for Dossier Journal. Even though we are still in store for another 2-3 months of summer, we can take cues for the upcoming season, and I am.

“Distance to Indifference” by Andrew R. Moore for fashiongrunge.com

bwb89

As always, I love when new editorials flood the ‘contribute’ inbox. Just to see the inspiration flowing from all corners of the world. This series from Andrew R. Moore pulls from that early 90s style of the Calvin Klein ads that we know so well. Shot in black and white and with an ease and edge, this proves that inspiration from the 90s is just too good.

“Minimal Warping” by Dan Spigelman for fashiongrunge.com

OUTFIT 2C

90s minimal school girl was stylist Natalie Czyzyk’s vision when putting together this editorial. The concept of 90s minimalisn is slowly creeping back into the mainstream and the notion of teenage dressing is always an underlying theme in so many artists work. Based in Milan, we travel the indoor and outdoor take on this teams minimal concept.

Fashion Grunge Editorial #24: The Lost World

TitlePage_TLW

As some of you may know I’m obsessed with abandoned places. If I could take an entire year off of my life and travel and explore now deserted places I would. Maybe that’s a thought. We traveled out to the desert of California to an old abandoned waterpark and shot this editorial. We’ve got a video coming soon as well.

It was pretty eerie being in a place that used to be filled with so much light that is now left with graffiti and fragments. Maybe you can see into this “lost world” to see what was there and imagine your own story.
