Days like this make me want to stay in bed all day. The sun is barely peeking out of the clouds but I can still hear rain drops crashing on my window. In other words, a perfect weather world.
She does it again. Barbara Bui showed her pre-fall line this week in New York. I think I’m completely in love. Not only with the aesthetic of the designs, but the complete simplicity and elegance of the photographs. Shot almost like a Terry Richardson/ Juergen Teller mix, the bold red lip and the sleek messy hair complements the clothes to a tee. The lacquered leather jackets and brocades remind me of a cool young downtown girl who also wears Alexander Wang and takes her coffee black. When is next fall again?

One of my favorite stores for years has been Aloha Rag in Hawaii. The boutique started in Hawaii and recently opened a store in New York. Sean, our intern in NYC was headed to Hawaii last month and it was a perfect opportunity to see where all the madness started! Sean met up with Makoto Kambara, the vice president of Aloha Rag for a tour around the shop. Divided into mens, womens, new arrivals, and accessories there are so many different options to choose from. One of the most interesting aspects is the merchandising of the shoes below the racks to complete the look. A detail that many shoppers seem to overlook when searching for just singular pieces. It’s always great think of a look as a whole when browsing in a shop. Filled with designers like Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, and Rick Owens the buyers really stick to an avant garde contemporary theme of the shop. There really is nothing better than a clean presentation of all your favorite designers.
If you’re in NYC or Hawaii definitely check out Aloha Rag!

This morning I woke up to the sky blanketed in white almost like it was about to snow. I know that is nearly impossible for it snow in July in New York but you never know. There is something about the color white that makes me think of snow, pure, and just an overall sense of clean crispness. So, here is an inspirational post all focusing around the color white.

I was originally going to title this post something like “trendwatch”. Then I realized that in my own world it’s not so much of a trend as it is a fashion habit. It seems that whenI put jeans on I automatically cuff them. Now with the changing lengths in denim trends almost anyone can make their denim the perfect length.
Also, who doesn’t want to show off your shoes?
it’s summer! time to roll em up!

I realize that this is the first official collection post that I have done since fashion week has started. The funny thing about it is that I am glued to the computer from the moment that it starts. This afternoon I was finally able to catch up with all the shows I wanted to see.
Rick Owens has been one of my favorite designers for a while now. He was one of the first people that I began to study when I got into this whole fashion obsession of mine. Thankfully one of my first fashion splurge pieces was one of his leather jackets so ever since I have been in love. His past collection for Fall 2012 just reminded me again of how much I love this man. He dressed them in sort of an armor type of dress. Strange how Alexander Wang and Rick Owens both had some sort of cover-up on their women this fall. Maybe its a nod to the pending apocalypse according to the Mayan calendar. Next fall I’m in ribbed netting blending into my background of blue skies and palm trees. All while rocking a badass cocoon like silhouette.
This is one post that I’m very excited to share with you all. I’m sitting in my living room watching “Live Tonight! Sold Out!” a great Nirvana documentary that always brings so many memories back. I can remember showing up with the VHS tape in hand at my friends house all excited to sit extra close to the screen. SO much that I’m apart of the show. You will soon feel the same when you read my upcoming post. This leads me to my post on British fashion designer, Charlie May.
her video for the AW12 line is mindblowing…
She’s not only a great new indie designer, but I feel a bit guilty because she’s a secret I’ve been keeping for too long. She has a blog called Girl a la Mode and it’s been on my list of top 5 blogs to read when I get home for years now. Part Rick Owen, part Jil Sander, part Alexander Wang with a splash of Acne sums up her designs to a tee. Showing her second collection just a few weeks ago in London she is already been well received by the press and I can only hope that I make my way to London soon to check these pieces out in person. Until now I never knew how the absence of color can speak volumes.

Fall is my favorite season. I hope that we can drag out this L.A. fall/winter season just a bit longer. Today on one of my days off this week I checked out some of my fav pre-fall collections. Next month is fashion week and I can’t wait to see what we are all gonna be bundled up in next fall.
My three favorite collections that I seen so far are Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, and Diesel Black Gold.
-we all by this point know my love for A.Wang. I can however admit when I’m not in love with a collection however, this one is pretty spot on for me. With a nod to menswear tailoring he makes my mouth water yet again. Can we talk about that burnout tribal jacket? Here we go…
- I don’t talk too much about Helmut Lang but they are one of my go tos when I think of timeless basics. I have these awesome sweaters and skirts that still have carried me through seasons and seasons so far. Their aesthetic hasn’t changed much but that sorta the fun isnt it?
- This newish line from Diesel is already being compared to brand by the likes of Acne and Rag and Bone. Diesel has shown real growth and a point of view past their extremely popular denim in the 90s and logo printed t-shirts. This line is worth a second look…
