Model Crush: Binx Walton

As I spend my Sunday catching up on instead of watching the Oscars like most of the country, I have found a new fav model to style covet, Binx Walton. The Tennessee native is probably one of the most badass out at the moment. I love her tomboy, ultra cool girl attitude that shines even when she is gracing the runways of some of the most notable designers in the world. Having recently spotted her in my dream outfit on the Alexander Wang F/W15 runway, I delved more into her catalog and found some great inspiration.

Model Crush: Julia Nobis

Julia Nobis is exactly what the definition of a model is, a true chameleon. Each time I see her in the pages of glossy fashion mags or in new campaigns, she embodies each side of the fashion spectrum. Fresh from the Saint Laurent SS 13 campaign and currently ranked #19 Model in the world according to, she really shows no signs of slowing down.

A few months ago I discovered the show, “The Model Agency” which spent 6 weeks with Premier Model Management in London during 2011, which also happens to be Julia’s agency in the UK. I think the one aspect I love about her is the “tomboy grunge” nature of her off duty style. A feature that is quite common in many models today.  See why she is so relatable to the high fashion world and the indie mag circuits alike.

From the Vault: Preen Magazine

When I was first getting introduced into the world of the magazine culture, I read everything I could get my hands on. I remember spending countless hours on the floor of Barnes & Noble with a stack of magazines soaking up this new world that I longed to be a part of someday. Since we’re in the zygote phase of developing our own magazine here, it seemed like the right time to mention one of my favorite magazines that sadly only had 7 issues. The Huntington Beach,CA based publication, Preen Magazine.

From the first issue I was hooked. I was still reading Nylon in 2007 when Preen debuted, but I wanted something a little off the beaten path that I just wasn’t getting from them anymore. Enter Preen. Lilly McElroy, the editor in chief described it perfectly, ” Preen is a fashion arts, lifestyle quarterly magazine for the young independent woman that has a curatorial eye for the world around her.” I can’t think of anything better. Each issue is filled with some of the most inspiring articles and editorials that I’ve ever seen in print. It really gives me hope that this can be recaptured yet again.  It’s impossible for me to scan every issue cover to cover ( although I would), so here is each cover with one image from each edition that I happen to find inspiring. I’m proud to say that years later the Preen aesthetic and mission statement still holds a piece of my heart.

Wake Up in the Late Afternoon…

Days like this make me want to stay in bed all day. The sun is barely peeking out of the clouds but I can still hear rain drops crashing on my window. In other words, a perfect weather world.

Pre-Fall 2013 Madness: Barbara Bui

She does it again. Barbara Bui showed her pre-fall line  this week in New York. I think I’m completely in love. Not only with the aesthetic of the designs, but the complete simplicity and elegance of the photographs. Shot almost like a Terry Richardson/ Juergen Teller mix, the bold red lip and the sleek messy hair complements the clothes to a tee. The lacquered leather jackets and brocades remind me of a cool young downtown girl who also wears Alexander Wang and takes her coffee black. When is next fall again?

Fashion Grunge Editorial #19: “Broken”

It’s the end of the fall season for the editorials here. When trying to describe this series for the blog all I could think of was the element of being broken and torn apart. I don’t know whether it’s Mercury in Retrograde or just the feeling of the end of the year but we have all been through a lot this year. With more to come…

video by Cody McCook

We shot this a few weeks ago in East LA, which I instantly fell in love with. Set against the blustery abandons on the streets of an industrial California backdrop, most always seen with immense amounts of traffic and endless rows of  palm trees. We brought the patterns, the layers and jewelry all in a new direction.

Inspiration: Abbey.Lee.Kershaw.

This week it’s time to start it off right. In attempt to combine my usual Sunday inspiration posts with my model muse obsession here is an awesome retrospective of model Abbey Lee Kershaw. I think it’s reached full on girl crush status with every photo that I see of her. From the ice blonde hair to the iconic gap in her teeth, she is so awesome that I just call her Abbey. Like Kate.
