Now this hasn’t happened to often, but there are some times when the soundtracks of the movies draw me in. I love the importance of soundtracks in movies. An art that I really think has taken a steady decline over the past few years. Maybe next week I’ll do a countdown of the great 90s movie soundtracks. Hmm…
This brings me to “A Life Less Ordinary” which stars Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz. It’s basically one of the classic late 90s twisted comedy/ satire flicks. Although this one featured a lead single from Beck called “Deadweight” and was directed by Danny Boyle who directed ‘Trainspotting”. The story about a janitor who gets fired from his job who then decides to kidnap his bosses girlfriend and you’ll have to see the movie to see where that goes. This film is definitely worth the watch and definitely worth a spin of the soundtrack.

“Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life . . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. “
These are the opening lines to the film, Trainspotting. A movie about a group of heroin addicts living and going crazy in Edinburgh, Scotland. This movie will scare you straight from even thinking about touching any kind of drug, so tread lightly. Through the graphic depiction of the trials and tribulations of heroin addiction, the style of this movie has shaped so much of the trends out there today. Especially, in the new movement in grunge. Mixed with some mod influences of the U.K. there is no shortage in fashion inspiration here.
Not to mention, who doesn’t love Ewan McGregor and Jonny Lee Miller from the 90s?
