In 1996 a documentary called Hype! was released that profiled the rise of the music scene in the Pacific Northwest, particularly in the late 80s/ early 90s. It was because of this documentary that much of my interest grew with this scene. Many times I would have given anything to be a teenager from Seattle in the those decades. This documentary discusses the birth of the scene and how it really was for much of the creatives behind the movement. From graphic designers, music critics, and photographers, it really gives a new perspective to the “Seattle Sound”. Thankfully I found the full film on YouTube so please watch it as it’s a foundation on how the evolution has continued into today.
(future update: We covered this film on the Fashion Grunge Podcast in 2020)
