Hey Babes! Erin here
For my first post, I wanted to discuss skincare. Obviously, skin is the base for any great makeup, but beyond that your skin is a mirror of what is going on internally. It protects you and it needs a lil love and care!
I’m not an esthetician or dermatologist, these are just suggestions as to what I’m trying out. Skincare is such an individualized process, and each person has a different chemistry. Hormones, stress, environment, and especially diet all play in to how your skin looks, so I don’t want to recommend anything. I just want to discuss some products that have been working for me lately, and I’d love to hear about what products you guys are loving!
The brand, Dr. Jart was kind enough to send me a package of goodies, which I have been using for the past month. Dr. Jart is a Korean skincare line that was created by a dermatologist in 2004.
The products I received are the Ceramidin Cream, the DermaClear Micro Water, the Pore Medic Kit, the Pore Minimalist Charcoal Sheet Mask, the Wrinkles Solution Gel Mask, and the Hydrogel Cheek & Eyelift Mask.
My two favorites are definitely the Ceramidin Cream, and Micro water. Ceramides are actually lipids (fat) that the body naturally produces. They play a key role in holding skin cells together. The cream is very rich, and feels almost heavy, however when applied to the skin, it dissolves instantly, and gives a very plump, hydrated appearance, it also is very long lasting! I use it day, and night after I cleanse, it is recommended to use in conjunction with the Ceramidin oil, which I didn’t have, so I tried the Josie Maran Argan Oil under it, only where I was really dry, and holy moly! The most glowing, fresh skin ever!!
The Micro Water is a really great alternative to the traditional soap cleansers. Basically, it is a mineral water that uses hydrogen particles pull out all the dirt/makeup/junk from your pores. On days where I am wearing a full face of makeup, I use it as my toner. It has a really nice, brightening quality to it! I also really love Lush’s Breath of Fresh Air toner, and Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner. Toning is such an important step because it balances the pH of the skin!
I used the Pore Minimalist Mask one night when my forehead was broken out, and let me tell ya, this mask is AMAZING! It contains charcoal, which draws out impurities, and excess sebum (oil), but it is very moisturizing, and almost calming as well! My skin was so clear, and smooth the next morning, I will definitely be purchasing a bunch of these masks! They are $7.50 at Sephora, which I think is a very reasonable price point.
My last item that I have been loving is the Pore Medic Kit. It is a 2 step Peel system. Basically, this is really helpful for anyone who has dullness, texture, sun damage, etc. It is a physical, and chemical exfoliation. Physical exfoliation is topical, so and sort of scrub that has beads, or grains that rub on your skin. Chemical exfoliation is deeper. It typically uses an acid, in this case lactic and salicylic, to eat away at all the dead skin, revealing the fresh, glowing new skin underneath! Exfoliating is definitely an important part of your skincare routine, but you definitely want to be careful! Too much physical exfoliation can irritate and even tear skin, and if you use a chemical that doesn’t agree with you, your skin can burn, or break out in a rash. My skin is super sensitive, and reacted really well to this system. First you apply the scrub, it is micro fine in texture, so its gentle! After 2 minutes, you massage on the lactic acid wash, your skin will get very warm! Rinse, apply moisturize and sunscreen. This particular system causes the skin to be very sensitive to the sun, so make sure you apply that sunscreen! My husband and I have both been doing this 2x a week, and are super psyched with the results! I notice much smaller pores, less pimples, and overall brighter, smoother skin!
I haven’t tried the other two masks yet, but I’ll be sure to review them once I do! So pretty much, this is my routine as of lately. Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize, the occasional mask, and Exfoliate at least once a week. These products might not work for everyone, but so far, I have really enjoyed them! Oh, and of course ALWAYS use sunscreen, and try to drink as much water as you can! Let me know what skincare brands/products you have been loving recently!
