I like to take pictures of my friends and their surroundings, to put their memories on paper. I love to capture teenage aesthetics – first love, sunsets, fast food, and so on. In the modern world, unfortunately, children prefer to look at other people’s memories on Instagram rather than create their own. I don’t know how I feel about this, whether it’s sad, or acceptable for 2020. I try not to think about it and spend more time with friends than on social media.
In any case, social networks quickly entered our lives, and pictures of the «teenage dream» flooded Tumblr and Instagram. Also photos from the lives of my own friends made their way into this «teenage dream». Еach photo has its own story, some tell it themselves, and behind others there is a mystery that only the author is able to explain. Once I heard the expression «We dream of a time in which we did not exist.», what I consider to be the unprecedented main expression of our time. In 2020 we are much more enjoying other people’s memories on Instagram, Facebook or Tumblr than creating our own.
My portfolio is called «tag me if you use my pics» because I believe that every artist on the internet deserves to be identified, their works should be identified. If my friends were part of your small Tumblr teenage dream, I think they deserve to know that.
about the artist:
In 2009 my family moved from Moscow to the Netherlands (Amsterdam). I grew up and made friends here, but each year we also went to Russia and I saw the differences between the cultures, especially youth. Later I started to photograph my friends in Amsterdam and in Russia, to capture their different lifestyles. I was self-developing my photography skills and at the beginning of 2019 I decided to study at the Fotovakschool in Amsterdam.
In 2019 I moved my photography portfolio from the Russian VKontakte to Instagram, then my pictures went viral on Tumblr and other social media.
