[ It may not just be a veil that limits a woman’s freedom. How much is imposed and how much is the necessity or the legacy of a culture?
Women in Sardinia cover their heads with caps, handkerchiefs, shawls and capes or lift one of the skirts on their heads. Skirts are typically full, mostly pleated.
On a rocky beach in the south of the island I photographed Tatino.
Which I decided to call tzia Bainjia.
The wind, the sound of the sea and the smell of this land took me back in time.
When my grandmother wore the black veil, when the village bells rang loud at noon, when the women went to get water from the fountain.
This editorial is a male gift to those women who have made the history and gave identity to this island ]
