This film has been on my list for a while but it slipped my memory as of late. It popped into my head and I was sure that Jai would be up to do an episode on it.
Much to my surprise this was her first time watching and this was probably my second or third watch. This film is an incredible true story of a 13 year old girl Christiane F. taking place in mid 70s West Berlin.
I was so focused on the performances and depictions of drug abuse and the desperation of youth at that time. In contrast the acting feels so raw and real as if you’re watching a documentary.
We found a copy on YouTube and it’s one of those films you have to see to believe. Some points we mentioned are the facts of the real Christiane F., a 2016 Gucci campaign “inspired” by this story, and the musical factor of having this story set to David Bowie songs.
