The Matrix (1999) dir. The Wachowskis
“This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”
EPISODE NOTES
This episode felt like a mind melting session. Me and Mikey talk the impact this film still has today in all areas of culture. We examine some interesting casting possibilities, the fashion, and constantly question our own realities.

Hey thanks for your podcast. How have you not done an episode on Party Girl? This is the film that established Parker Posie as THE 90s indie actress! Also your episodes are entirely (?) focused on films by white directors and heavily cast as white. Maybe dig deeper and see what you find!
Thanks for the comment! We have so many on the list. I’ve made a list here of the ones I’m doing eventually and adding to it all the time. Check it out: https://letterboxd.com/fashiongrunge/lists
The films that I’m covering are ones that I specifically resonate with growing up. Most but not all of them have a “grunge” / 90s fashion subculture that fits with the music I was into at the time and still are. Totally understand your point with branching out with more diversity. As a black woman myself I’m aware of the lack of it in the 90s mainstream and even independent films in the genre we cover. Thanks for the note and I’ll dig deeper for sure. If you have any suggestions with either punk rock, grunge, and 90s alternative rock vibes or soundtracks, I’m all ears! cheers, L.
