This is quite a surreal moment for me. I’ve been inspired by Valerie Phillips’ work since I picked up a NYLON magazine in the early 00s. It was a dream to be able to talk with her about shooting during the peak of fashion magazine culture. We get into her start on music video sets, how she worked with some of the best during the start of NYLON, and how she self published her own work which led to an international publisher and her latest book, Candy Cat Head (out soon on @marginalpress).

It’s time for a global whirlwind gold heist! Yes, this probably isn’t the type of movie you would think I would touch on for the pod, but here we are. I have this one on DVD which led me to a rant about the many problems of streaming and why I ran to grab my disc this time.

I get into the many times I’ve seen this, how everyone on set basically looked like they were getting a root canal, and why movies need to go back to spending money on locations and action set pieces!

This was an interesting film to have as a first watch. @charleshaslam selected this one and it was one of the most tension filled but intoxicating films I’ve ever seen. The performances are incredible throughout and we have a definite ‘Oscar rage’ segment because of it.

🎂 Well here’s to another year of Fashion Grunge! In 2008 I started the website while in my NYC apartment . It started as an outlet to pass the time while working retail and trying to figure my life out. I’m so proud to have hosted so many artists from around the world over the past 17 years!
